“THE DECLINE IN HUMAN RIGHTS AWARENESS AMONG THE COMMON PEOPLE AND THE CONSEQUENT RISE IN HUMAN RIGHTS ABUSE HAS SUBJECTED MANKIND GLOBALLY TO A CLASS OF ENDANGERED SPECIE; ENDANGERED BY MEN WHOSE DUTY IT IS TO PRESERVE THE DIGNITY OF MAN”

OUR VISION: To ensure that the Liberty of Man is Preserved in Africa.
OUR MISSION: To consistently and efficiently provide Human Rights Education and awareness to the African Population.
In our first Campaign called “THE POLICE MUST STOP THIS” we are treating issues bordering on Abuse of Human Rights by Law enforcement Agents in Africa. Answering Questions like What do I do when a policeman; stops me, tries to search me, tries to arrest me, tries to detain me, asks for my papers, identification and what are the agencies I can resort to protect my rights etc.
ABOUT US
ABOUT E-RIGHTS FORUM: E –Rights forum is a forum for everybody aimed at extending Human Rights Education to the common man on the street.
Our emphasis is on the day to day experience of innocent citizens with Law Enforcement Agents.
The campaign is to ensure that the common man on the street conform to the customary standard of rights awareness. That he is also aware of several agencies responsible for protecting his rights.
This concept is built on three primary questions namely:
- What are my Rights?
- When are my rights abused?
- How can I enforce my rights?
HOW DOES THIS WORK? You must have an e-mail address to join the forum. It is an e-mail based information service. On subscription, you become a member of the forum. All frequently asked questions bordering on Human Rights arising from police-citizens relationship will be taken care of in our short E-Newsletter which will be sent to your e-mail address from time to time.
We have developed numerous topics bordering on the above questions of human rights from arrests, stop and search, house search, warrant of arrest, arraignment, statements in the police, detention to traffic laws.
HOW WILL IT BENEFIT ME? On the streets of Africa, so many citizens are arrested/harassed for all the wrong reasons by the police.
In Aba, Abia state, Nigeria, a man was arrested for committing criminal in tendencies and brain embarrassment-This must stop.
In Oshodi, Lagos State, a boy was arrested for committing “taking the police to an unknown destination”-This must stop.
A young man in Ikeja, Lagos State, who had dark finger nails, was arrested for “looking like somebody who smoked Indian hemp”-This must stop.
On the traffic, so many stories are told about police harassments and brutalization. The Knowledge of rights by citizens will curb police excesses and help citizens assert their rights and prevent them from abuse.
